SARANYA . S. HEGDE

From an early age Saranya’s twin passions have been art and social work. Saranya works with a variety of mediums, pencil, charcoal, water colours and oil paints. Her portfolio encompasses landscapes, portraits and Indian art. But she is seen at her best in the portraits she created of family, personalities and people of influence.

Her portraits of 8 famous scientists hang in St. Anne’s School in Mangalore. One of her paintings is exhibited in the art section of Miraskar Bungalow in Mangalore. Saranya’s works have gone to the USA and China through exchange programs.

However her talents do not end there. She is a natural cook, who has brought out a number of cookery books, one for special mention being the “Mangalore Cuisine.”
However, in spite of her tremendous talent, she turned down a promising career in fine arts to pursue her other passion, social work. Her compassion for and identification with the downtrodden and marginalized, brooked no rivals. Today she is the president of Mahila Dakshata Samiti which, under her charismatic and dynamic leadership is doing yeoman service in the areas of uplift and rehabilitation of women in distress, health care, education and child welfare
