SUMANGALA RAMAN

"In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can imagine". -Ralph Waldo Emerson

How true, art begins with imagination - and that is how it began for Sumangala. Although by profession a Chartered Accountant, Sumangala was never too far removed from her creative side. At a young age she found herself attracted to colors and forms and taught herself to paint. Painting became a passion. Her first major creative project was designing her own home, followed by various painting projects she undertook over the years - be it fabric painting, training her children in art or terra-cotta painting for her Zen garden. After retirement from her hectic corporate job, Sumangala started pursuing Painting as a more serious hobby. She started taking classes at Chitra Kala Parishat and familiarized herself with techniques in painting and sketching. Today she showcases her work at exhibitions while continuing to hone her skills. She believes that Painting is a form of self expression, a great stress buster and a beautiful opportunity for one to be alone with their imagination. One day she hopes to share her knowledge with budding young artists and help them discover their passion.
