Aritst Usha Shantharam takes inspiration from her day to day
experiences in life, and paints her landscapes, figuratives, still life and
portraits in the ‘Contemporary Impressionism’ style. Her signature techniques include using of
special glazing methods and pure paints to create paintings. She typically
never uses pure black, but mixes her own chromatic darks instead. She has a
passion for experimenting with interesting new color combinations, unusual
angles, and the play of light and shadows in her paintings.
Her ‘Body Language’ series of paintings are based on day to
day real life moments and experiences, capturing the simple attire, poise and
posture of common Indian people. Whereas her ‘The Drawing Room Musings’ series
is a collection of ‘en plein air’ paintings of Indian Landscapes done on
location at Lal Bagh Bengaluru, and Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary. Her ‘LAYA’
series of paintings are a collection of figurative paintings of classical
dancers performing on stage.
She has exhibited extensively across India, in Bangalore,
Calcutta, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Jaipur and
Goa in prestigious galleries like Chitra Kala Parishath, GC Centenary Fine Art
Gallery, Renaissance Art Gallery, Sublime Art Gallery, Palette Symphony Art
Gallery etc. She has twelve group shows
and two solo shows to her credit.
